NNL December

Ava Obermueller is our December Rose.  She has brought her husband, Dale, to the Luncheon at Kings Crossing Country Club.

Each lovely poinsettia plant is a gift from Ava to the people who are sitting at her table.  She also gave EVERY person attending a Christmas ornament.  We all thank you, Ava.  Ava and her friend, Kay Shaw, look Christmasy in their pretty red jackets.

VIP President Jackie Del Nano and NNL President Elizabeth Feeney have matching red blouses.  Don't they have great taste in clothes?

Marjorie Abner serenades us as we mingle in the Social period.  What talent she has!

Brenda Cantu is Jennifer Oler's guest.  Brenda is a Jazzercise Instructor.  Joining her sounds like a great New Years Resolution!

We are so thrilled to have Pat Shoesmith (standing) back home in Corpus Christi after their tour duty in Scotland.  It's also great to see Alice Andrews and Sally Wakefield, who haven't been able to attend for awhile.

Jacque Schenk is the guest of Donna Montgomery.

Mary Murphy is Treasurer Stephanie Wenzler's guest.  Stephanie put her to work checking in the luncheon guests.  Thanks, Mary, and we hope you'll join us.

Outgoing President Vicki Gaarder accepts a Thank You gift from the club, presented by Advisor Terrie Bodine.  (It's a trip to Woodhouse Spa.  What a great thing for the New Year!)

Vicki also accepts the beautiful scrapbook made and designed by Scrapbook Chair Cherl Hinton.  Josey Flynn and her guest, Elva Pena, enjoy looking through it.

The NNL Rosettes sing Christmas songs.  The voices are great and the arrangements professional.  What a talented group we have!  Left to right are Donna Montgomery, Donna Hamilton, Beth Turcotte, Josey O'Flynn, Cherl Hinton, Ava Obermueller, Sally Wakefield, Sylvia Whitworth, and JoAnn Robertson.

Charlotte McElroy accompanies this number.  She, Sally Wakefield, and Chair Sylvia Whitworth take turns at the piano accompanying the group.

Lance Corporal Gary Martinez and Corporal Freddy Salazar of the United States Marines accept our donation for the Toys for Tots program.  NNL contributes each Christmas.  (Elizabeth is NOT taking the teddy bear home, but showing it off to the crowd!)

Nametag Chair Mary Reyes wins the birthday drawing and Josey O'Flynn wins the 50/50 money.

Dining Out Club

The Dining Out Club held an impromptu get together at B & J's Pizza to say goodbye to Club Chair Dale Standford and John.  They are moving to Sun City at Georgetown.  Left to right are Ruth Williams, John Standford, Kent and Sharon Ortin and Dale.

Co-Chair Jane Cheesman got the group together.  She's enjoying her pizza with husband, Bill, Roger and Margie Schroeder, former NNL member Mollie Zick and Karl.  The Zick's just happened to be eating there and joined the group.  Bob Schultz is seen on the right.

Joyce and George Seitz are next to the Zicks.

Marty Williams has joined Ruth on this side of the table.

John Gray, Julie and Pat Brower, Lena Maude and Erm Mueller are seen at the end of the table.

This view shows Julie and Bob Schultz, Len and Joan Keyes (Len is hidden behind Bob).

The Muellers and the Browers are visited by Mrs. Santa Claus.  Those pizzas were really "yummy".

Bridge Club

The NNL Bridge Club shown playing cards at Lubys on December 15th.  Gerry Hackley, Marianne Jones, Betty Hagemeister and Barbara Phelan in the first picture.  The second picture is Lois McCray, Chair Jane Cheesman, Nancy Gray and Louise Moore.

Antique Club

Gloria Waller sent these pictures with this caption: "Here is the Antique Club on Thursday, December 18 at the Bleu Frog and Hester's for lunch.  The Bleu Frog was nicely decorated for Christmas, and we all had fun shopping."

 Coffee

Coffee hostess Cat Longoria celebrates her birthday.  Hubby is taking her to Europe over the holidays.  What a great gift!

Joan Stobie, who is back from New Mexico for her winter in Corpus Christi, helps out in the kitchen.

A Christmas quartet are Jo Ann Robertson, Sharon Blair, Sally Escobar and Juanita Powell.

President Elizabeth Feeney calls the group together.  Behind her is Advisor Terrie Bodine, Communications Chair Judith Labeck, Advisor Sylvia Earnst and Cheryl Kelsey.

Proofreader Mary Reyes and Membership Chair Bridget Post are in front of 2 paintings - BUT - behind them is actually a built in aquarium!

December Rose Ava Obermueller

The 50/50 winner is Treasurer Stephanie Wenzler.  To her left is Sylvia Whitworth.

November Eaters Unlimited Club

This is at the Green Papaya on November 21st.  The club is open to all NNL members and their guests.  A different restaurant is chosen each month on the last Friday of the month.  Because of Thanksgiving, this is a week early.

November Antique Club

Gloria Waller sent these pictures.  "These are pictures taken of the Antique Club on Thursday, November 20, 2008 at the Longhorn Steak and Ale restaurant after visiting the antique shops on Antique Row on Alameda Street.  I bought a cute bracelet with rhinestones and black jewels, and a very cute navy blue t-shirt with white angels, just right for the Christmas season!"

November Luncheon

Elizabeth Feeney begins her 6 month term as President.  Her enthusiasm is apparent in her smile.  Our goal AND challenge is to bring in new members.  A task force will be formed to seek out newcomers to Corpus Christi and invite them to join our club.

Melissa Brooks is our new Vice President and a brand new member.

Stephanie Wenzler is holding a second term as Treasurer.

Vicki Gaarder is the Secretary this term.  She has brought her mother to the luncheon.  Vicki's husband is being transferred to Wichita, Kansas and we teased her about leaving hurricanes for tornadoes!  We will really miss her leadership.  She served two terms as President - 10 years apart!

Our November Rose is Karlina Perry.  She has brought her son, Darin, to the luncheon.  Hubby, Rick, was out of town and couldn't attend.  Both Rick and Darin work for Whataburger headquarters.  Son Bryan and his new bride, Ave Marie, live in Dallas.  With Karlina working as a Nurse Practioner at Planned Parenthood,  we don't get to see her as often as we used to and miss her beautiful smile.

Carol and Mark Scott presented "The History of Corpus Christi" with slides, a timeline poster and interesting stories.  Carol serves on the Corpus Christi Independent School Board and she spoke about the current schools at a prior NNL Luncheon.  Mark is a past City Councilman and was not only personally acquainted with some of the leaders of Corpus Christi, but had interesting stories about many of them.

Our first settlers

Mark is a great story teller and enjoyed telling tales about some of our history makers.

We were served a wonderful lunch with Spinach and Bacon Quiche, Broiled Tomato and Fresh Fruit with Black Magic Cake for desert.  What a way to begin a new term - a great program, lovely Rose, enthusiastic officers and delicious food!

VIP Luncheon

The VIP Club celebrated Election Day at the Corpus Christi Country Club with Music students from Texas A & M - Corpus Christi.  Under the direction of Flicka Rahn, each student either sang or accompanied on the piano.

The solos varied from Opera, to Dr. Suess, to Broadway tunes.  The voices were equal to both Broadway and the Met.  What a treat to have these talented young people here at our University!

Professor Rahn closed the program with "God Bless America" to a standing ovation.

The group readies themselves for their performance.

Eaters Unlimited

Gloria Waller sent these pictures with this caption: These are pictures taken today, October 31, at The Place to Be Restaurant with the NNL Eaters Unlimited Group.  I had the liver and onions and it was great!  The menu was vast!  And everybody took food home because the portions were so huge.

Silent Auction and Rose

The Silent Auction was held at the October Luncheon at the Corpus Christi Country Club.  Cherl Hinton was Chair  and Treasurer Stephanie Wenzler bids on the silver tray.  Almost $1,000 was made on the Fund Raiser.  Thanks to ALL who helped, donated and bought!

President Vicki Gaarder presides at her last Luncheon.  Thank you, Vicki, for all of your hard work this term and for your continued support.  (If you didn't know, Vicki was President of NNL when she lived in Corpus Christi about 10 years ago.) Some of the Silent Auction items can be seen around the room.

Congratulations to Gloria Waller for winning the 50/50 money!

Sylvia Earnst is the October Rose.  She is a past President of NNL.

Sylvia is introduced by Advisor Marsha Baxter.

She introduces her table.  Here are Ava Obermueller and Ruth Williams.

Installation of Officers

The Installation of Officers for the term November 2008 - April 2009 was held at the October Coffee (in the home of Bridget Post).  Here are Treasurer Stephanie Wenzler, Secretary Vicki Gaarder, Vice President Melissa Brooks and President Elizabeth Feeney.

The Installation was conducted by Advisors Marsha Baxter and Sarah Miracle.  This is Sarah's "last hurrah" as she moves to El Paso.  We will miss her and wish her good new friends and lots of fun in the new home.

Vicki presides at her last coffee and Melissa and Elizabeth are ready to take over.  (Or ... ARE they??)

We welcome Cheryl Brown, a guest of Jeanne Marie Welch.

Antique Club

The Antique met in October at Sister Sue's upstairs restaurant, "507".  Gloria Waller says that the Apple ala Mode is fabulous.

Book Club

The Book Club met at Pat Dorsey's home with past NNL member Mary Jo Cheesman giving us a cooking demonstration from Southern Living.  Mary Jo has worked for Southern Living off and on for many years.  Here, she is demonstrating how to make a quick Red Beans and Rice with Sausage.

She made these Beef Lettuce Rolls and is now drizzling white glaze on this Triple Chocolate Pound Cake.

Members Alma Grady, Sarah Miracle, Beth Turcotte, Chair Kathy Peoples, Stephanie Wenzler and Susie Wright look on.  And... YES, we did get to eat the food, plus dishes made from Southern Living recipes brought by members.  What a feast.

Book Club members attending:

1st Row: Alma Grady, Virginia Tyler, Susie Wright, Beth Turcotte

2nd Row: Nancy Gray, Sarah Miracle, Pat Dorsey, Jennifer Oler, Patricia Bibbs, Stephanie Wenzler, Chair Kathy Peoples, and Joyce Seitz  (Linda Dorsey had already left.)

Happy Hour

  at TOČ

Linda is the Chair and the entire NNL Club is invited.  These are from the September 26, 2008 gathering.

Gloria sent in the pictures.  She and Carolyn were the hosts.

Bobbie Sue visits!

Former member, Bobbie Sue Doye', comes from Oklahoma to visit Susie Wright and see friends.  She and Susie went to Las Vegas to buy Bobbie Sue new furniture.  There are LOTS of reasons why people go to Vegas, but "buying furniture"!!!  Actually, she did buy furniture at the Furniture Market and got just what she wanted.  It's comfortable for her bad back.  Wonder if you can "write off" a trip to Vegas as a medical expense!  Hmmm...

Anyhow, a group of us get together at La Playa to celebrate.  Left to right are Virginia Tyler, Beth Turcotte, Nancy Gray, Joyce Seitz, Pam Gordon, Jackie Del Nano, Deb Hernandez, Bobbie Sue, Susie Wright, Stephanie Wenzler and Linda Dorsey.
