Dear Ladies and Sponsors,
I have really gained a lot of respect for the way NNL works. I never paid much attention to it before I became President. It is cool because if some Board member is out of town, or sick, or for whatever reason, can’t fulfill their duties, their advisor is there to take it over. I just have to do my job. And we have an assistant to help out the advisors.
I think that is great. And what else is great? I am having fun! All of my past Board positions have been jobs that I have done at home alone. So, it is really special to have all of the personal exchange with you. Thank you for all of your love and support. I really felt it at the luncheon.
Another great thing is that members can only be on the Board for their first two years. You can stay in New Neighbors forever, but can only serve on the Board for two years. It gives everybody a chance. In other words, it is really a fun experience to be on Board with so many wonderful women.
George and I are off this weekend to go to Louisville, KY. to visit George’s daughter and family. Our daughter, Stephanie, is having a surprise party for her husband, Todd’s, fortieth birthday. We are part of the surprise.
Thank you for giving me this wonderful experience of being your President.
Let’s make friends and have fun. Gems may be precious, but friendship is priceless.
Blessings,
Joyce Seitz
President

NEWEST NEW NEIGHBORS
It is great to welcome Sally Galyon as one of the New Neighbor family. She and her husband Tom relocated to Corpus Christi from Lansing, MI in March 2004 as a result of her husband’s transfer to become President/CEO of the Corpus Christi Convention and Visitor’s Bureau. Sally and her husband have two children, Addison 20 and Ashley 18. Sally is an original Virginia gal who learned of NNL through her realtor. Sally describes herself as outgoing, caring and fun. She has interests in scrapbooking, shopping, crafts, travel, movies, computer, art and food. Lucky for Sally, NNL has a club for each of her obsessions. Thanks for joining our family Sally. We are so happy to have you!

Rose of the Month
Though born in Cleveland, Ohio, our June Rose is really a southern bell at heart. Her family moved to Roanoke, Virginia when she was five and she called it home until her handsome prince swept her off her feet just after graduating from college.
Shortly after graduating from Roanoke College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in French, our Rose caught the attention of a young man. It didn’t take him long to fall for her southern charm! Our Rose met her prince on a "double-blind date". The woman who knew Jay didn’t know our Rose and the woman who knew our Rose didn’t know Jay! But these two kind ladies - who turned out to be very good at playing Cupid - decided that their single friends needed to meet. Supposedly, while completing his residency, Jay had dated all the nurses at the hospital and his friend thought it was time for him to meet a nice, straight-laced girl. So dinner was arranged and Jay, the gentleman trying to impress his straight-laced date, ordered iced tea. Our Rose followed his lead and asked for a glass of water. According to our Rose, they were both on their best behavior. But as dinner progressed, they got to know more about each and realized the other was perhaps not quite as straight-laced as described by their friends playing Cupid. Our Rose says that after dinner, they went to a bar where she knew the bartender!
Our Rose was soon speaking the Language of Love…as a high school French teacher and as a woman in love! Jay was soon transferred to Florida and the young couple found long-distance love too much to bear. They married shortly thereafter and will soon celebrate their thirteenth wedding anniversary. They have 2 children: 10 year old Jesse and 8 year old Allison. Shortly after Allison’s birth, our Rose transitioned from her teaching job in the classroom to her teaching job at home.
Our Rose lived in Florida and Tennessee before making her way to Texas in 2002, when Jay accepted a position with Corpus Christi Medical Center. She was introduced to New Neighbors League by her friend, Cindy Schiner, soon after arriving in Corpus. Our Rose, who describes herself as somewhat shy, says that she promised herself prior to moving to Corpus that she would make an effort to make new friends here. When Cindy invited her to an NNL function, our Rose knew this was her opportunity! True to her promise, she got involved as a Board Member, serving first as Social Chair. She has since held the positions of Secretary, Sanddollar Editor and now, Advisor. She has also made many new friends in NNL Clubs, serving as the Chair for Wine Tasting II and the Mom & Daughter Book Club, and participating in Secret Pals. In recognition of her contribution to the Club, her NNL friends have twice honored her with the Fun & Friendship Award. Our Rose says that NNL has provided a great and unique opportunity to make a diverse group of friends, from all different places and backgrounds. She’s thankful to have met so many people whose paths would not have otherwise crossed.
Our Rose doesn’t have much free time for her hobbies, reading and working on the computer. Her community activities keep her plenty busy! In addition to her NNL involvement, our Rose is very active in the PTA, serving this year as School Shirt Chair and next year as Vice President in charge of school fundraisers. She teaches Sunday School at her church, First Presbyterian, where she is also Chair of the Christian Education Committee. She is a member of the handbell
choir and has recently begun to fulfill a childhood dream…learning to play the piano. Her friends describe her as fun-loving, organized and a friend that you always know you can count on. She’s got a heart of gold and stands up for what’s right even if it’s not easy.
Congratulations to our June Rose: Kim Woodall
