PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Dear Ladies and Sponsors,

Here it is nearly spring and except for the snow at Christmas, it seems as though we just skipped winter altogether. Before you know it, we’ll have Easter bonnets and Easter bunnies. Also this month, in addition to our Spring Social, our coffee, our luncheon, and all of the various club activities, we’ve got to make room for spring break!

Once again, it’s almost time to select a new Board for the upcoming term. I encourage each of you to find your place on the NNL Board. Getting involved is a surefire way to meet new people; making new friends is just a fringe benefit. If you would like to serve in a certain position or on a particular committee, please contact any member of the Nominating Committee or myself. It’s great fun and you’ll be glad you served!

Please remember to purchase your tickets to our Spring Social. This term our social and fundraiser have been combined. Both the Ways & Means committee and the Social committee have worked hard to put together a fun filled evening for our members and their guests. Tickets will be available at this month’s coffee and at the door. Come support our club and have a great time at Viva Las Vegas!

In the words of William Ward,

"A warm smile is the universal language of kindness".

Dear Mom and Dad,

I know it’s been some time since you last heard from me but ever since I joined the New Neighbors League, I have been so busy having fun that I haven’t had to time to write, call or email. When the kids are in school and hubby is at work, I keep busy with a wide variety of NNL activities with my great new NNL friends. Let me tell you what a typical month is like.

On Monday mornings I meet up with the Walking Club members at the Padre Staples Mall. I have also joined the Home Design Club. Why? Remember the horizontal pink and purple stripes in the living room of my last house? Not that there was anything wrong with that. The ladies in the club are so helpful with decorating ideas. I am also learning to play Bridge.

On some Tuesdays, I attend the Conversational Spanish Club. I can now go to any Mexican restaurant, order beer and ask where the restroom is in Spanish. You would be so proud of me. I also go to the First Movie Club. It’s fun to see a chick flick with the girls. Sometimes we go to lunch afterwards and discuss the movie. I have also joined the Daytime Book Club and have read some wonderful books that I would never have chosen otherwise. I went shopping yesterday with my recent winnings from Pokeno and Night Bunko.

On some Wednesdays, I go Bowling. Unfortunately, I am still the "gutter ball queen". My computer crashed last week and the Computer Club ladies were able to help me fix the problem. I have joined the Health Issues Club and am learning all about how to make my body more healthy. After helping the kids with their homework, I sometimes sneak off to the movies with the Midnight Mamas.

Thursdays are really busy. Since I am on the NNL Board, I attend the Board Meetings once a month.

Following that is the Coffee. That’s where I meet new friends and see all my old friends at the same time. I also attend the monthly Luncheons where I get to visit with more friends. They always have a great program too. I am really enjoying Bunco Brunch and afterwards, we meet up with the Lunch Bunch

ladies at great area restaurants. Yes, I am watching my waistline. I have the best time shopping with the Antique Collectors and have just learned how to crochet with the Creative Craft ladies. Everyone is going to get crocheted potholders this Christmas.

On Fridays , I hang out with the Walking Club again. Sometimes I go to Beer Tasting Club. Joining Eaters Unlimited has allowed me to experience different restaurants around town.

On some Saturdays, the family attends Couples and Kids Dinner. It’s weird how the kids will gladly eat broccoli and spinach at someone else’s house but not at home. Why is that? Hubby and I sometimes attend the Wine Tasting Clubs. He thinks it all tastes like grape juice but the club is working on educating his

palate. We also attend Couples Dining Out and Couples Game Night. Sometimes it’s good to "escape" from the kids and enjoy conversations with other adults. This is something we can do together and have made some really great friends.

I have also joined the Circle of Caring and Hearts and Hands Clubs. It feels good to support the

community. I hear NNL is starting up Scrap booking Club and a Cooking Club. Now I can do something with all those photos I’ve been taking and I know the family will jump for joy if I took cooking lessons. Hopefully they will start asking for seconds. Many of my NNL friends have small children. They enjoy the

Starfish and Mom & Tots group. On Sundays it’s rest, church and family time. So you see how full my life is? Joining NNL was the best thing that I could have done.

Well, I have to go and surprise my Secret Pal. l will write again next year when I have some time.

Your loving Daughter.

After lunch, Candy introduced the executive board and advisors. She also acknowledged our Past Presidents Carol Allen and Jackie Del Nano.

She then recognized Dr. Vaughn and Laura Smith with Coldwell Banker as our sponsors that were with us today. Dr. Vaughn thanked everyone for their support while he prepared for his tests and announced that he had successfully completed them. Congratulations!

Candy Duncan recognized Charlotte Mackelroy as a guest of Sally Moehrke. Susie Wright’s mother was also a guest with us today.

Mary Jo Cheesman introduced our "February Rose, Julie Brower". Julie had her husband Pat and daughter Suzanne with her to celebrate in her honor. She read a poem that she had written to introduce all of her special guests at her table.

Our Social Chair, Jennifer Oler reminded everyone about our social "Viva Las Vegas" which will be on March 4th from 8-12 p.m. at the Omni Bayfront Hotel. It will be a night of food, dancing and gambling (with funny money). There will also be raffles and prizes. She said that tickets would be $25 a person and $30 for non-members. She also said checks could be held until March 4th if needed.

Sylvia Whitworth announced our February birthdays, and Alice Murphy won our birthday drawing.

Charlotte Mackelroy won the Hearts and Hands Raffle that was held during the luncheon. She won a beautiful purse made by our very talented Marcia Mayes.

The advisors handed out door prizes and the 50/50 drawing was held. Cyndy Pagan won $26.50.
