President’s Message
Dear Friends and Sponsors,
It is that time again for another successful NNL term. I truly want to thank the Nominating Committee for all their hard work in filling the Board positions. I feel very privileged to be able to work with such dedicated, capable, diligent and fun loving friends. I have big shoes to fill after Candy's successful term as President. She always showed so much professionalism, organization and hard work along with her radiant smile and cute giggle. With all of your support and positive attitudes, this term will be wonderful, as well. NNL has so much to offer and I look forward to working with each of you.
After living in Michigan for 13 fulfilling years, but enduring such cold weather, I have not only found this wonderful weather but most importantly, the many warm hearted friends who are always so friendly and ready for a hug. I have our great realtor, Gene Guernsey, to thank for that.
For my theme this term, I have chosen "bloom where you are planted". Some of us may be in Corpus Christi by choice and other's because of a job transfer. Whatever the reason, I want your roots to grow and form a lasting bond with all our newcomers and NNL friends.
As you recall, we were all a new member to NNL at one time. Let's continue to open our hearts and souls in making all our potential and new members feel warm and comfortable as we did when we first joined. Also, remember those members we don't see quite as often. Let's communicate with them to let them know what fun activities, fond memories and friendships NNL has in store for them. We certainly don't want them to be forgotten
I am always open to suggestions so NNL will continue to prosper and welcome new and returning members in to our League with open arms.
Meanwhile, we can all enjoy the warmth of friendship which is always in abundance in NNL.
Sally Galyon
President

Sunshine Column
By Mollie Zick

Julie Schultz writes that she was lucky enough to accompany her husband on two business trips to London within months of each other. The latest is coming up this week - bon voyage, Julie.
Mollie and Karl Zick will be taking an adventure trip on the Rockport Bus Tourline on April 17 -21st. This is the tourline's trip to the Louisiana and Mississippi casinos so hopefully the Zicks will come home with a few more coins than they left with, preferably not the other way around. Also Mollie will definitely find as many quilt shops as she can while in Vicksburg, MS.
The winner of the April birthday drawing was Anne Foster, who proudly let everyone know that it was her 89th birthday. We are glad she comes, and hope she continues to come to our luncheons. Happy Birthday again Anne.
Jim and Sylvia Whitworth just moved up to a 36' sailboat - anybody want a ride, just call!
One of our former members, Marina Klyncke had a baby boy, Ryan Patrick, weighing in at 7 pounds and mother and baby are doing great. Marina lives in Monterey, CA with her husband Nathan and Ryan's older brother Joshua, age 2-1/2. Marina's address is 1146 Leahy Rd., Monterey, CA 93940 in case anyone would like to drop her a line.
ROSE OF THE MONTH

Our May Rose first bloomed in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, and was transplanted to Tulsa at age 12 where she graduated from Jenks High School. Our Rose continued blooming at Tulsa Junior College where she received her RN degree. She later continued her education at the University of Tulsa and Ottawa University where she is just nine hours short of receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in Health Service Management.
While attending a street dance in 1978, some friends introduced her to Robbie and sparks must have flown - they were married six months later. Rob says, “It’s a toss up as to who caught who. We were ‘hot’ for each other. I still love her very much but I better stop there…”
Our Rose has worked in a hospital Pediatric ICU for six years, as a Medicare Quality Review Coordinator, in Health and Risk Management, and her last job before coming to Corpus was as school nurse for 2200 students. Now, I don’t care who you are - that’s a lot of runny noses.
Our May Rose is now a full time mom to John, a sophomore at King High School. John is almost 16 and very near completion of his Boy Scout Eagle Project of building custom bookcases for the Corpus Christi Woman’s Shelter. Their two Llasa Apsos, Bear and Duncan, complete their happy home.
Just to illustrate how flexible this lady is, she moved with her husband Rob to Columbus, Ohio, in July of 2002 and soon was told that they would be moving to Corpus Christi in December of 2002. With a few tears shed and a little stress under her belt, she arrived in Corpus with a smile on her face and has certainly bloomed where she has been planted.
Our Rose has held more NNL Board positions than anyone can remember. She has been Prospective Members Assistant, Membership Assistant, Ways & Means Assistant, Ways & Means Chair, Vice President and Secretary. She is also the Chair for Circle of Caring and the Assistant Chair for Hearts and Hands. She has received two Fun & Friendship Awards and is also active in the Saturday Wine Tasting, Home Design Club, Movie Club, Circle of Caring and Hearts and Hands. Despite chronic back problems, she has helped paint the Children’s Game Room and the Family Room for the Salvation Army here in Corpus and volunteers for the King Parent-Teacher Organization.
Her friends describe her as loyal, extremely caring, kind, always smiling, wise, a good listener, and beautiful inside as well as out. You can always count on her when there is a need.
Our Rose loves spending time in Colorado fly-fishing even though she claims to be not very good. She loves the mountains during summer when the wild flowers are blooming and the wind is whistling through the air. Our Rose loves cold weather, going barefoot, New Neighbors, and the color red.
Our beautiful transplanted but still “blooming” Rose, Bobbie Sue Doye.

April 14, 2005
President, Candy Duncan called the April 14, 2005 luncheon of the New Neighbors League of Corpus Christi to order, and welcomed our guests who were in attendance. Candy read our prayer, and lunch was served.
After lunch, Candy had Vice President, Brenda Pitz come up and introduce our guest speaker Tom Galyon (husband of our own Sally Galyon). Tom is the President and CEO of the Corpus Christi Convention and Visitors Bureau. He gave an excellent presentation of “Tourism, an Economic Force for Corpus Christi”. It was very informative and interesting.
Candy then recognized the executive board and advisors. She also acknowledged our Past Presidents Pam Gordon, Ruth Williams, and Joyce Seitz. She recognized Dr. Don Vaughn and his assistant, Kay as sponsors who were with us today as well.
Sally Galyon, our Prospective Chair, introduced the prospective members that were with us today, and Sylvia Whitworth, Membership Chair introduced our 5 new members that had joined our club this month.
Candy Duncan recognized our guests. Brenda Pitz (our April Rose) had her husband Bob, and Debbie Hernandez brought Carla Daggett Dulling as her guest. Candy gave a special “Thank You” to Personally Yours Florist for donating the corsages for our Rose every month and the flowers for our incoming officers. She then asked Joyce Seitz to come and introduce our April Rose, Brenda Pitz.
Joyce read a lovely bio on our Rose and told of how much she will be missed as she moves to Pennsylvania soon. Brenda then spoke of how much NNL had meant to her, and how much she would miss everyone as well. She then recognized and spoke of each of the special guests sitting at her table.
Candy presented Jana Gann with the Fun and Friendship Award. Jana selflessly took over the duties of Scrapbook Chair when Christi Cheek had to resign due to a move. Jana is our current Treasurer and is doing a wonderful job with both duties. Candy then recognized her executive board and advisors and presented them with a gift for their dedication during her term as NNL President.
Joyce Seitz performed the installation of our new officers for the upcoming term. Sally Galyon was presented with the gavel as President, and our new Executive Board: Jane Cheesman, Vice President; Jo Ann Robertson, Secretary; and Judy Holloway, Treasurer were all presented with Roses.
Sally Galyon, President took over her duties and led the rest of the meeting. She introduced her advisors and board and had them come forward to be recognized. They presented Candy Duncan with a gift for her hard work and dedication as our President for the past 6 months.
Sylvia Whitworth, Membership Chair announced our April Birthdays, and Anne Foster won the Birthday drawing for the month of April. The advisors handed out door prizes and the 50/50 drawing was held. Treva Miles won $29.00. Tammy Mathis won some lovely cards designed by our own Irene Pratap for the Hearts and Hands Raffle.
Announcements to be noted:
The next coffee is May 5th at 7:00 p.m. at the home of Carol Gigliotti. The Board Meeting will start at 6:00 p.m.
The next Luncheon is May 12th at 10:45 a.m. at the Corpus Christi Town Club.
The last VIP luncheon until fall will be held May 24th. It is a fashion show and makeover program presented by Julian Gold.

Home Design Club is having their own "parade of homes" for NNL on May 9, 2005. Celinda De La Garza, of Interior Innovations, will be taking us on a tour of four or five of the homes she is presently decorating. Some will be empty. One or two may be already occupied. Celinda will be showing us wall finishes and discussing colors and texture. This is a great chance to get some decorating tips and enjoy another "bonding" opportunity with fellow New Neighbors. We will meet at 9:45 in the parking lot of Kings Crossing Country Club. EVERYONE in New Neighbors is invited to attend, so please join us. Who knows? We'll probably have time for lunch afterwards if you have time.

Hearts and Hands

Thanks to all the painting helpers from Hearts and Hands and thanks to everyone that has donated at the raffles by buying tickets or contributing an item. Anyone wishing to contribute a handmade item for an upcoming raffle, please contact Susie Wright.
Hearts and Hands is interested in projects and causes that the membership supports. In the past we have sent underprivileged kids to summer camp, supplied school supplies and uniforms, rang Christmas bells, helped with basic personal care items for shelters, painted a women's and children's shelter (we still are and would love your help to finish), helped at the Yuletide Market for the YWCA, filled the teenage gift closet at Driscoll's and are dressing dolls and bears for Christmas presents for underprivileged kids. This is all possible through your support in labor, donations and the raffle sales.
We do not help solicit for other fundraisers. Our funds go to specific projects that the group has selected. We would love to have you, as members, offer suggestions on projects and needs in the community, big or small. Please send as much information as you can on how we can help to Susie Wright, 1729 Star Cove Dr., 78412 or email tumbleweedglass@stx.rr.com.
This month's Hearts and Hands raffle brought in $42 for our projects. Thanks to Irene Pratap for donating the beautiful handmade cards and thanks to those that bought raffle tickets. Next month, Glenda Tvrdik is graciously donating a purse to Hearts and Hands.
