PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Dear Ladies and Sponsors,
I first want to thank Janice McLauchlin, who I met at an open house, for introducing me to NNL. Also to Treva Miles and Carol Allen for inviting me to my first coffee and making me feel welcome. To Janna Lenz who became my first new friend.
Moving to Corpus Christi was my first move away from my home in San Angelo, Texas. It had never crossed my mind to leave until my husband was transferred with his job. The move was going to be "our mid-life adventure" and it has been.
Joining NNL has been the best thing that could have happened to me. Coming from a town where I knew practically everyone to a place I knew no one, I thought would be tough. Then I joined NNL and have made so many new friends. NNL has truly been a Godsend.
The theme I have chosen for this term is "Smiles are the seeds to friendship". Did you know that it takes fewer muscles to smile than it does to frown? And we all want to save our energy. So when you see someone new, be sure to introduce yourself and make them feel as welcome as I was made to feel.
Let’s plant "seeds" for new friendships and remember to cultivate the friendships we have already made.
Friendships begin with that single gesture – a smile!

Gary and Lettie Good are going to Israel for 2 ½ weeks without kids. She will tell us all about it when she returns.
Crystal Mead’s daughter, Katie, will be presented as a debutant by the Order of De Pineda in December, and will be a Duchess in the 2005 Buc Days coronation. What an exciting year for this young lady!
Evelyn Rathke spent two weeks in Southport, North Carolina to be with her granddaughter, Hannah, and her new little sister born the last of August.
Marcia Mayes just returned from a two-week vacation in Reading, PA, where she had a trunk showing of her handbags and taught a purse-making class. She spent 9/11 touring Washington, D.C. Marcia visited the Amish areas where she visited quilt and fabric shops and came home with an entire suitcase filled with beautiful fabrics!
Susie Wright returned from a month in Kansas City helping her sister recover from a knee replacement and two hip dislocations. She got to meet her three new grand nieces, recently adopted by her niece. Her mother-in-law returned with Susie for a two-week stay.
Kae Martin is having a busy month. Her aunt Helen Woytovech is visiting for 1½ weeks from No. Miami, FL. Next week, Kae’s sister, Sue Woytovech will visit for five days from Zagreb, Croatia. Kae wants to visit Croatia, but for five weeks, not five days!
Nancy Gray had a great trip to Scandinavian countries, Russia, Estonia, the Normandy area of France, and England. Sounds like fun, and educational, too.
Kyle and Rita Albrecht’s youngest son, Ty, took his First Communion on Sunday, Oct. 3. It was a great weekend all around since he also made "A" Honor Roll! In attendance were his grandparents, two great aunts, a great uncle, his cousin and proud big brother, Will.
Robert and Bobbie Sue Doye’s son, John, has been approved to do his Boy Scout Eagle project at the Corpus Christi Women’s Shelter. He will be building bookcases to be used in the clients’ rooms. They are so proud of him!
Glenda Tvrdik says "Thanks NNL members, guests and friends for making my ‘Rose Day’ so special. I will always fondly remember this marvelous day. My beautiful corsage from Donna Tindall of Personally Yours matched my suit beautifully. There also were special touches added by Glenda Fisher and The Town Club to make this an unforgettable event. I received many lovely gifts from many of my friends and my Secret Pal of NNL. These all contributed to the special moments of the day."

Our Rose is a native of Texas. She was born in Tyler but spent most of her life moving around the United States as part of a military family. Our Rose moved to Corpus Christi seven years ago.
Our Rose was educated in Baytown and attended Tyler High School. She studied Art and worked her way up to a PHD Candidate in Clinical Hypnotherapy at San Diego State in California. Our Rose is a self employed artist. She has worked in all mediums, clay, glass, watercolor, oil, acrylics but is especially interested in Dichroic Glass and Jewelry making and, has donated several of her beautiful pieces for the New Neighbors’ Silent Auction at our "Make It/Bake It", much to the delight of the successful bidder. You may also view her work at the Second Sunday Art Market at the Corpus Christ Art Center.
Our Rose was introduced to her husband, Jim, by a gentleman she was dating at the time. Jim had returned from Viet Nam and bought a house in St. Simons Island, Georgia. Her date invited her to Jim’s Housewarming party but because she hadn’t been invited by Jim, the host, she declined to go. After about a year, Our Rose had decided to move back to Texas. Having not had the opportunity to speak with Sue for about a year, Jim walked over with a bottle of Champagne to say good bye and wish her well. They started dating in August and were married the following February.
Our Rose has two daughters, one granddaughter, two grandsons and a great-grandson. Sue and Jim are currently in the process of adopting their two grandsons, Sean eight and Guerry, eleven, who have been living with them for about a year.
Our Rose is a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and credits her two sorority sisters, Treva Bedwell and Kae Martin with her joining NNL in August of 2002. They just kept telling her how much she would enjoy NNL and she certainly has. Sue says some of the nicest people she has ever met are members of NNL. Our Rose enjoys everything about NNL, especially the camaraderie and the opportunity to meet people she may have never met. As described by her good friend, Kae Martin, Sue is not just the life of the party, Sue is the PARTY. As long as you have Sue with you, you have a party with you!
Another good friend, Marcia Mayes describes Sue as a very generous and caring
person. She has been known to call from garage sales telling Marcia she has
found something she thinks she might like, or better yet, she buys something and
surprises her with it! She has never met a stranger and thinks nothing of asking
a stranger for something she might want. She says - all they can do is say "no".
And, to Sue the answer is usually "yes". She is fun to be around and is very
adventurous. But one thing you have to remember is she is not a night owl. If
you call her after 8:30 p.m. you will find her in bed already. But, during the
day she is always ready to go somewhere and have a good time. If you go
shopping, traveling, lunching or exploring with Sue you must remain on you toes
and look after her. Sue is notorious for laying down her belongings -- be it
purse, keys, jacket, etc. and just wandering off. You sort of have to trail
behind her and pick up. She definitely needs adult supervision. If you ever are
in trouble or have a problem she is the one to call. She will be at your side in
a flash -- with food, sympathy, flowers or whatever is needed. She is a
wonderful friend and adds a very bright spot to the world!
Our Rose has been the Chairperson for NNL Ways & Means for two very successful terms, and has modeled in the NNL Fashion Show for Williams Shoes. She participates in Creative Needle, Hearts and Hands and is planning on joining the Spanish Club and Bowling.
Our Rose is very active in the Art Center, she is the Vice President of the Art Center in Port A and Chairman of the Second Sunday Art Market at the Corpus Christi Art Center. She is also a member of the Salvation Army Woman’s Auxiliary.
Her hobbies are anything that has to do with Arts & Crafts and she does a little sewing. She made three doll dresses for the Salvation Army Christmas Fundraiser and won two awards when she wasn’t even planning on entering the competition.
Our Rose doesn’t have a favorite color because she loves, "anything bright".
Her least favorite color is brown. Our Rose describes herself as talkative, friendly and artistic.
Congratulations to our November Rose, Sue McClurg
